Artist team WAVEparticle have worked closely with the local community, the City of Edinburgh Council, and a team of architects (ABC) and landscape architects (HTA), to ensure that the greenspace in front of the Moredun Tower Blocks, initially zoned for housing, is now enshrined as a new public park filled with objects that reflect local stories and history in the form of Moredunvale Park’s Outdoor Museum.
To make this Outdoor Museum WAVEparticle gathered objects and stories from the local community, and designed a plinth to hold these, based on a 1:40 scale model of the actual tower block, that artist, Calum Stirling helped to build. We then made a bronze top with the team at Powderhall Bronze, and then each of the objects was modelled in wax, through to bronze, by the artist, Kate Ive. There are 6 plinths, with 102 small bronze objects in total, located in Moredunvale Park.
This website is under construction as we finalise the stories we’ve gathered about the objects over the next while. The focus has been the launching of the work in physical space in Moredunvale Park, and we would encourage you to visit this in wind, rain, and sunshine. We are moving our attention to the digital, including this website and also the Friends of Moredunvale Park Facebook Group, which together will archive the work done to date, and seek to support the community-led process of maintaining, and adding to, Moredunvale Park.
The documentation of the celebratory opening of the park on the 18th of September will be uploaded to the Friends of Moredunvale Park Facebook Group over the next few days, so please do check that.
Many thanks to everyone who has been involved in any way.
